May 15 - 19 Happenings!

The summer weather was certainly here this week!

On Wednesday we went outside for Writing Workshop!  It was very sunny and very hot out, but we still got some writing done!

Reading
Our story this week was Old MacDonald Had a Woodshop by Lisa Shulman.  We were introduced to many different tools that you would find in a woodshop, such as a drill, a hammer, and a chisel.  We learned how each tool works and we were able to hear the sound each makes.  We had a great time singing this story!

Fundations
This week we had two new Trick Words: by and my.  We also worked on spelling CVC words, identifying digraphs in words, and writing sentences using our white boards!

Centers

Game Center
The kiddos played BINGO with their Trick Words!

Work With Miss Farr
Our books ranged in topics from tools, to baby farm animals, to living in a country vs. a city.

ABC Center
We wrote, traced, colored, highlighted, and stamped by and my.

Writing Center
The boys and girls drew and labeled 3 tools from our story.

Book Circle
The students followed along to two stories.  They searched for and circled the Trick Words by and my in the stories.

Fundations Center
The kiddos identified the medial vowel sound in CVC words.

Handwriting Center
We worked with our peers to write Trick Words!  Each student pulled a card with a picture of either Wally or Tessie (Red Sox mascots) from a Red Sox hat.  He/she read the word on the back and then each student wrote it either under Wally or Tessie, depending on whose picture was on the front of the card.

Seatwork Center
The boys and girls used their Trick Words to write 4 sentences.

Let's Find Out
We continued our theme of learning about animals and insects!  This week was ladybugs!  We learned that ladybugs are not always red and black and that just like butterflies, they go through a metamorphosis!

Math Centers
We began the week by working on taking 1 away from numbers 1-5.  Later in the week we worked on taking away 2 from numbers 2-10.  These were our centers!

At Your Seat: The kiddos glued a set number of ducks in their journal.  They then crossed out a given number of those ducks to find how many were left!

Hands On: The kiddos practiced subtraction using counters.

Grace, Michael & Madison playing at Math Facts center!
