March 13 - March 20 Happenings

When will the snow storms end!?
We only had three days of school this week, so we finished our centers on Monday March 20th.

On Friday we celebrated St. Patrick's Day!
We dressed in green and were visited by a leprechaun named Lucky! He left a pot of gold, pencils, a message and footprints EVERYWHERE!

 Reading
Our story for this week was Abuela written by Arthur Dorros.  This story is about a girl and her grandma which is abuela in Spanish! They love going on adventures and the young girl imagines what sort of adventure they would have if they could fly!  This story taught us a lot of words and phrases in Spanish!

Fundations
We added one new trick word this week: was.  We also continued to practice on identifying our other trick words.

Centers

Reading Groups
This week our stories were about family members, especially grandparents!  One group learned all the ways grandparents are great, while another group read about a boy who helped his grandma rake the leaves.

Writing Center
The kiddos completed the sentence and drew a picture to answer the question: "What are some things you do with your grandparents?"

ABC Center
The boys and girls traced, wrote, colored, highlighted, and stamped their new trick word, was.

Handwriting Center
The kiddos used highlighters and rainbow wrote with pens to practice spelling the word was!

Book Circle
The boys and girls followed along to a short story called "I Was With".  They wrote their own sentence for the book and searched for the word was on every page!

Fundations Centers
We rolled a die 10 times and wrote a specific word depending on which number the die landed.

Listening Center
The kiddos listened to the story There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover.  They then went to art center, where they made handprint rainbows that led to a pot of gold!

Math
This week we did not have math centers due to the snow days and a lot of kiddos being out on Monday.  We conducted an experiment to determine which solid shapes rolled, slid, or could be stacked.  We recorded our findings in our math journals.
