March 20-24 Happenings!

Finally, a full week of school (and a busy one at that)!

On Thursday, the entire school had pajama day and in the afternoon we watched part of Zootopia!

Also, on Friday we had crazy sock day!

Oh and we did learn some things too :)

Reading
We read the book Max Takes the Train by Rosemary Wells.  The kiddos were excited to read this story about a beloved character Max, from Max and Ruby.  In this book Zeke's Palace of Ice Cream is having a special on their double chocolate ice cream whamburger with coconut curls and red sprinkles and Max has to have one!  Max and his Uncle Bunny take all different forms of transportation to get to Zeke's, such as a bus, a subway, a ferryboat, and the plane.  The children thought it was funny when Max's sister Ruby met them at Zeke's but had only taken one form of transportation - a bike.

Fundations
This week we introduced three new trick words: we, she, he.  We practiced using these words in sentences and learned that we relates to more than one person, he relates to a boy, and she relates to a girl.  We also introduced the digraphs sh, wh, ch, th, and ck.  We will dive into these more next week.

  Centers

Reading Groups
The kiddos played BINGO with all of our trick words so far.  We also read stories about sweets!  We enjoyed talking about our favorite sweets which included ice cream, cookies, and brownies.

Social Studies
The boys and girls sorted different forms of transportation depending on where it travels: air, land, or sea.

ABC Center
The kiddos traced, wrote, colored, highlighted, and stamped their new trick words into their ABC notebook!

Handwriting Center
This week we wrote our new words (he, she, we) with a pencil, and then decorated them using markers!

Art Center
The kiddos went to the ice cream shop today and made their own ice cream cones!  They could choose from many flavors including cotton candy, mint chocolate chip, and orange sherbet.

Book Circle
The boys and girls followed along while an adult read two stories that featured our three new trick words: we, he, she.  They then searched for each word in the story!

Writing Center
We drew a picture and wrote a sentence to share our favorite flavor of ice cream!

Let's Find Out
We learned sounds that the weather makes this week!  We even made our own rainstorm using our hands!

Math
This week we learned that some solid shapes have corners while others have curves.  We reviewed how the ones with curves roll and the ones with corners do not.  We also practiced making our own solid shapes as well as building with them.
Math Facts - 3D Shape Ice Cream Attack game at education.com
At Your Seat- The kiddos colored an image that showed two given solid shapes.
Teacher Time - We worked with partners to build a real object using two solid shapes!  We then drew and colored our creation.
Hands On - The kiddos built each 3D shape using playdough!
