February 14- 17 Happenings!

A somewhat normal week in relation to the length of the days, but definitely not with our activities!

On Tuesday, the 14th, we celebrated our Valentine's Day party!  The room parents put together some great experiences for the kiddos.  Here are some pictures!

On Wednesday, we celebrated the 100th day of school by dressing up as 100 year olds!

We also colored in 100 shapes, wrote what we would do if we had $100, and made 100 gumballs!

In addition to all these fun activites, we also completed our usual learning experiences.

Reading
Our story was One Mouse by Dori Chaconas.  In this story a little mouse is trying to find a new home.  He meets and visits the homes of many animals, but finds that none of them are right for him.  He ends up going back to his own home and feels cozy and content!

Fundations
We introduced three new trick words this week: and, are, and to.  We also continued to work on spelling CVC words.

Centers

ABC Center
The boys and girls wrote, traced, colored, highlighted, and stamped their new trick words.

Art Center
The kiddos made a mouse to go along with our story!

Handwriting Center
This week we finger-painted and made our new trick words out of stickers!

Social Studies Center
The boys and girls followed along to a booklet called ABCs of Black History in honor of Black History month!

Book Circle
We searched for the words and, are, and to in short stories this week.  The kiddos take these stories home and can practice reading them to their families!

Writing Center
The students drew a picture and finished a sentence to answer the question: "What animal home would you live in?"

Math
We only had time for one round of math centers this week.  We learned about halves and these are what our centers were!
Math Facts: We played the half or not half game at http://www.snappymaths.com

At Your Seat: The boys and girls colored halves of shapes/drawings.  They also identified drawings that were half shaded.
Teacher Time: We identified pictures of food that were cut in half.
Hands On: The kiddos were given a shape.  They then made that shape out of playdough and practiced cutting it in half!

Next week is vacation!  Have a great time!
