September 19-23 Happenings!

Hi Everyone!

I apologize for this update coming midweek instead of on the weekend!  It has been a busy past few days for Miss Farr.  Thank you for your patience!

Morning Work
The boys and the girls practiced writing their first names.  They traced their name 3 times and then wrote it at least twice.  We are working on only using an uppercase letter for the first letter of our name!

Reading
We read the story Fix-It Duck.  This story is about a duck who needs to fix a leak in his ceiling.  He goes to his friend sheep’s to borrow a ladder and ends up breaking more than he fixes.  The children really enjoyed the story!

Fundations
We learned about the letters B and F.  We practiced identify the sound each letter makes and we practiced writing each lower case letter.  We used our magnetic boards for the first time!  The kiddos were very excited!

Math
We began talking about positional words.  We discussed things that were on the top, the bottom, the middle, as well as inside and outside.  We also learned the words before, after, and between.

Centers

Handwriting Center
The boys and girls traced, wrote, and searched for the letters b and f.

Listening Center
The kiddos listened to our story, Fix-It-Duck.  They then drew their favorite part of the story!

Pocket Chart
The boys and girls worked with me to sort pictures by the beginning sound of the object.  We sorted the pictures by /b/ /f/ and /t/.

Writing Center
The students drew a picture to show how they can help someone.  They then dictated a sentence to one of the teachers, who recorded their words near their drawing.

Fundations Center
The boys and girls traced the letters t, b, and f.  They then colored the keyword pictures that correspond to each letter (top, bat, fun).

ABC Center
The kiddos sorted the letters b, f, and t!

Math Center
Sitting on the rug in a circle, the boys and girls built cube trains using unifix cubes.  They then answered questions using the positional words top, bottom, and middle.

Drawing Center
The boys and girls drew a butterfly and an apple following step by step instructions.  They did a great job filling the space given!

Whole Group
On Wednesday we made a class quilt!  Each student has his/her own square and he/she drew a picture for a specific topic in each corner of the square.  The top left hand corner is a drawing of themselves.  The top right corner is their favorite animal.  And the two bottom corners are their favorite food and a favorite character from a movie or TV show, left and right respectively.

Here is the finished product!
