May 2-6 Happenings!

Welcome to May!  Again, sorry for the delay of posting this.  It is a crazy (and very busy) time of the year!  We only have 6.5 weeks of school left!

We went on a field trip this week to the Discovery Museum in Acton.  It was a rainy day, but that didn't stop the kiddos from having a blast!

This week we finished our Reading Street Unit called Going Places.  We read the book This is The Way We Go To School by Edith Baer.  This book taught us different ways that children around the world get to school, such as by helicopter, bike, cable cars or trolley.  We were able to look at the pictures and discuss why people in Hawaii travel differently than people in Siberia.  The kiddos really enjoyed this story!

We focused on the letters Yy and Qq this week.  We made a list of words that begin with Qu and we spent time talking about how Q has a best friend u and they are inseparable!
The boys and girls also drew pictures to show words that begin with the letter Yy!

Work Board

Art Center
The boys and girls made flowers for their moms using a toothbrush and paint!

 Seatwork Center
The boys and girls answered questions about their moms for part 2 of their Mother's Day gifts!

Word Study
The kiddos worked on sounding out four letter words.  They touched each sound in the word and then blended the sounds together!  After they blended the sounds, they undid a clothes pin to reveal a picture of the word they had just read! (source)

Work With Miss Farr
This week some groups read stories about school while others read about different kinds of transportation.

Katelyn drew to retell what happened in the story about a girl taking the bus to school!
Writing Center
The kiddos wrote to tell one way children around the world get to school.

Writing Workshop
The boys and girls are continuing to work on story writing.  This week we discussed how our pictures need to match our sentences.  For morning work one day, the kiddos were given a sentence and they were asked to draw a picture to illustrate it.  They did a wonderful job!
