April 11- April 15 Happenings!

Happy Vacation!

I hope everyone has been relaxing and enjoying the beautiful weather!  I have been spending the week cleaning and getting ready to host my sister's bridal shower!

We read the story The Little Engine That Could.  We had a great discussion about the engines who refused to help the toys.  We talked about how those engines were selfish and thought they were better than the trains.  We also had a discussion about perseverance, making connections to our own lives about times we have persevered.

We focused again on the letter Uu this week.  We spent time during morning work spelling CVC words with the medial short /u/ sound and identifying pictures and finding the correct word from a word bank.

Work Board

Math Center
The boys and girls played BINGO this week and worked on identifying numbers 0-15.

Handwriting
The kiddos worked diligently to write every letter (both upper- and lowercase) that we have learned so far.  They made sure that each letter touched the lines its supposed to touch.

Art Center
The boys and girls used shaving cream and food coloring to create umbrellas and raindrops!

Word Study
We practiced tracing, coloring, writing, and gluing the letters to spell three Word Wall Words: what, said, and was.

Writing Center
The boys and girls (and one parent volunteer featured first) wrote to share about a time they persevered!

Work With Miss Farr
This week most reading groups read about emotions.  One group compared things that a truck carries to things the train carried in The Little Engine That Could!
