February 29 - March 4 Happenings!

Welcome to March!

It is unbelievable that we have already begun the 7th month of school!  Where has the time gone?  This week was Read Across America Week and the whole school decorated our doors in honor of Dr. Seuss!  Here is ours!

We kicked the week off with an assembly during which our principal, Mr. Clarke, read B.J. Novak's The Book With No Pictures to the whole school.  The cafeteria was filled with laughter!  We also had such a wonderful time participating in the spirit days!

Monday - Crazy Hat Day

Tuesday - Pajama Day

 Wednesday - Crazy Sock Day

 Friday- Favorite Character Day!
Bruce Wayne (Batman)
Ralph from Mouse and the Motorcycle
Pocahontas

We did do some work this week too! Our story was Goldilocks and the Three Bears, retold by Valeri Gorbachev.  Reading a classic story, that most children have heard, gave us the opportunity to talk about how stories can be retold in different ways.  We shared different endings to Goldilocks and the Three Bears that we have heard, such as Goldilocks becoming friends with the bears or running out the door.  In our story, Goldilocks jumped out the window and was never heard of again!

We also focused on the letter Gg this week.  We made a list of words that begin with /g/.

Work Board

Word Study Center
We went fishing for Word Wall Words this week!  Once a fish was caught, the boys and girls found and stamped the word on a sheet of paper.  Thanks to my dad for crafting these awesome fishing rods!

Art Center
In honor of Dr. Seuss, we made Cat in the Hat masks!

Pocket Chart Center
The boys and girls looked at three sentences that were written incorrectly with random uppercase letters throughout the sentence, no punctuation, and missing spaces.  They worked together to correct the sentences!

 Writing Center
The kiddos wrote to retell what happened in Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Play Centers
We had a great time this week building with straws and connectors, making puzzles, playing games, and building with pattern blocks!

 Writing Workshop
This week we continued working on our stories.  However, on Friday we switched gears and wrote to share our favorite Dr. Seuss character!

Thanks for another awesome week kiddos!
