February 22-26 Happenings!

Welcome back from vacation!

We had such a wonderful week back especially since we kicked it off pretending we were 100 years old!  We made necklaces with 100 beads (it only took about an hour haha) and we left 5 minutes early to head to lunch since our old bodies couldn't move very fast!

Our story this week was One Little Mouse by Dori Chaconas.  This story is about a mouse who leaves his home in the woodland to find one that is better.  He travels all around the woodland and is invited to stay with different animals such as snakes, frogs, quails and opossums.  The mouse finds that each home is not right for him and he ends up journeying back to his nest which is the perfect tiny and tidy place for him!

Work Board Centers

Writing Center
The boys and the girls wrote a sentence and drew a picture to share what they did over vacation.  I added a mini version of our writing checklist to our papers.  This way the boys and girls can monitor their writing conventions while they are working!

Word Study Center
We practiced sounding out and spelling CVC words.  We used picture cards (source https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Lavinia-Pop-4389) and magnetic letters to spell these words!  The boys and girls had a blast.

 Game Center
After practicing spelling CVC words, we played BINGO to practice our Word Wall Words!

Pocket Chart Center
The boys and girls also practiced sorting words by the ending sound this week.  We put our picture cards into three sounds: words that end with /t/, /n/ or /k/.  The kiddos then drew a picture of an object for each group!

Seatwork Center
Since we celebrated the 100th day of school on Monday, the children wrote what they would do if they had $100!  Their answers were extremely creative!

Play Centers
This week our play centers were playdough, legos, dramatic play, and Lincoln logs!

Preparing for Read Across America Week!
Next week is RAAW!  Every class at our school participates in a door decorating contest.  We are decorating our door in honor of the Dr. Seuss book The Cat in the Hat.  On Friday we turned ourselves into Thing 1 and Thing 2!

An extra treat for you all!
Here we are busting out some moves during one of our brain breaks this week! Thank you Learning Station on YouTube for the great music!
