October 31 - November 4 Happenings!

Hi again everyone!

We have entered November!  It is crazy how fast the year is flying by!  November will bring some mixed up weeks with days off for the 2016 Presidential Election, Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving!  But no worries, we will continue to learn and have fun!

Reading
We read Jim Arnosky's Armadillo's Orange. This story is about an armadillo who knows where his home is because of a nearby orange.  One day the orange rolls aways and Armadillo needs to notice the neighbors around him to find his way home.  We talked about things near our homes that let us know we are almost home, such as familiar trees, the park or a playground, and specific stores!

Fundations
The letters e and r this week!  We now have learned every vowel and we will continue to work on identifying the sounds.  We used our magnetic letter boards this week to practice identifying not only the vowel sounds but also the consonant sounds!  During this learning experience, we discovered that our names start with many of the letters we have learned so far!

Centers

Handwriting Center
The boys and girls traced the e and r in their Fundations notebook.  They then colored the corresponding keyword pictures "Ed" and "rat".

Fundations Center
The kiddos worked on writing 10 of the letters we have learned thus far.  They focused on making sure they were starting at and bumping the correct lines when making the letters.  They did a great job!

Seatwork Center
We worked to sort pictures by the initial sounds for the following letters: b, t, f, n, m, c.

Pocket Chart
The boys and girls worked to sort pictures by the initial sound (short) /e/ and /r/.

Math Center
The kiddos counted dots and found the correct numeral to place on top!  They also made numbers using playdough!

ABC Center
The kiddos traced, wrote, and searched for the letters e and r.  They then drew a picture of something that begins with each letter.

Writing Center
The boys and girls drew two of armadillo's neighbors.  They then did their best to write the first letter in each animal's name!

Let's Find Out
We explored more about the election!  We learned about different presidents, what crazy pets some presidents had, and completed a maze to help the president get to the Oval Office!

Math
We continued to learn about numbers this week!  We learned the numbers 3, 4, and 5.  We also learned some poems to help us write our numbers!

ENRICHMENT ASSEMBLY!
The kiddos were able to listen to the history of American music!
